By the Power of Baking Soda

Image
! I grew my first batch of Daikon radishes because it is hard to find where I live now. I was happy it went well until tiny bugs pester it and the leaves got holes and white spots. So, I read a few articles about it but I do not want to spray anything chemical on my veggies. I want it organic as possible. I have seen some articles about baking soda and how it fights fungus and bugs in plants and promote photosynthesis in plants as well. I was a bit skeptic but I have to save my Daikon radish. We use these types of radish for our " Pork Sinigang", an Asian dish that is tamarind base soup that we eat with rice. I could find Daikon radish so we decided to plant some. So, I mixed 1 teaspoon of baking soda ( the one you used for making cookies) and 1 Liter of water. Shake the bottle so the soda particles will liquefy... In my mind, this is suicidal for your radish but I have to take the risk to save them. WOW!!! The leaves are greener and the white fungus thing went away...

Get Rid of Bad Bugs In Your Veggie Garden

Image
Planting your own veggies or flowers. It is overwhelming to see fruits and flowers after you've worked hard for months. Then a feeling of dismay strikes you if you see holes in leaves thinking some insect is feeding on your plants. There are good insects and bad insects. If you use pesticides they kill both. So we need to have something to protect our plants without spraying any chemical solution that will affect especially the fruits or veggies we grow. We plant our own veggies and try hard to make them "organic". So here is a solution that will help keep your plants from insects. Garlic Solution: Mild:  5 cloves of garlic crushed 3 Liters of water Strong: 1 bulb of garlic crushed 1 Liter of water * Crushed the garlic and soak in in water fo 6 hours. Strain and put in your spray. If you have cats around and would like to play scratch with your plants here is a solution Lavander and orange. *Soak sliced orange in wa...

ART | And The ABSURD

Image
SELLING FOR $70,000 Hobbyist and full-time artists are in an argument pool about how paintings are judged. Of course, the price of art dangles along with it.  Are we suppose to judge art and find a price that will not make us think or say the word "ridiculous"?  Are we like trees just pliable to how the wind blows... like oh, he is famous and rich ... I will like his art even others think a kinder can draw and paint better? Are we just going to be a bystander... letting other people strike each other with pointy remarks? When I saw Jean-Michel Basquiat painting sold for more than a million, I was like ... geez! I don't even know this guy, never heard of him. BUT.... one of his paintings caught my attention. Though most of his paintings look like a nursery scribble to me, there's one thing he is expressing here.  " I don’t listen to what art critics say. I don’t know anybody who needs a critic to find out what art is." That ma...

Light and Shade | Painting

Image
What brings your painting or sketches to life? The colors are there but how can you manipulate these colors? Light and shade.   A simple painting or drawing can be more expressive when accentuated by light and object magnified by shade. Sometimes simple rules are often forgotten and that is death... painting becomes flat and rigid. When we start a painting, we are often occupied of how to position the object on a canvas. Then we find out where the light is coming from and shade would just be at the bottom and always opposite the radiance. It is hard when I was starting to paint but I found a great way to practice light and shade. Water drops are the best practice piece. I started drawing pencils... then, watercolor pencils... 'till you get the hang of it and apply the techniques in your acrylic or oil painting. Manipulating light in colors is amazing...  Light comes from the Right side and the middle part should be a great blend of two the two co...

Simple Basic Colors in Painting

Image
I never imagined I would be hooked with this type of hobby. It was a struggle really at first since I have to follow painters in Youtube and I get upset if it doesn't look right. Well, painting is a hobby, not another stress. So, I just read about primary colors. What color comes out if you mix them. Thanks to my 3rd grader for the tutorial. hahaha. From then, I started to have an idea, which color goes with what and when you look at your painting as a whole they blend. I did not start buying paint stuff as crazy. I want to test the water as the saying goes and it's either you have it or not. If you don't have it, move along. Simple as that. So, I started with a cute canvas  just an 8" x 10". Like what I said from my other post, start with a type of paint that will give you a solid color. Just buy a set of paint that gives you black, white, red, blue, and yellow. Then you are all set. Mixing these primary colors is a lot of fun. Start a very...

Finding the Right Paint for Your Recycled Crafts

Image
Recycling is the best way to dispose of your garbage. Just get your creative mode out there. Plastic bottles, amazon boxes, beer cans, bottle caps, old newspapers, and other plastic containers are mostly used for this crafts. Your best friend is your glue gun. This is the fastest way and the most sturdy way to put things together. Since you are dealing with old stuff you want to make it look new and with the wow factor. You need to have a paint that won't crust and crack especially when you put your recycled stuff under the sun or rain. Never use water based acrylic paint if you desire to put your crafts out in the garden. Painting is a lot of fun. If you are a beginner you need to start with an acrylic paint which gives you a solid color. This can be helpful if you want to base your plastic bottles and hide the labels that you cannot remove through scrubbing them in warm water and soap. I have a recycled project which is a huge butterfly and I planned to put it o...

Emotional Color Flowers Bring

Image
What is behind flowers that can make anyone smile back at you when giving it to them? What is behind flower power or what is the emotional impact of flowers? Serotonin is a hormone in the brain that makes happy thoughts. When you give flowers to anyone, it instantly generates smiles. Studies have shown that not only women smile when they receive flowers but men as well. Sadly, men don't often receive flowers but most of the time, flowers are used by men as a prime shield especially when they've been a knucklehead and would try to avoid an angry wife. Flowers come in a wide variety of colors. Red makes you excited, blue: relaxing, orange: friendly, pink: youthful, purple: creative, green: soothes the eyes, and white makes you feel clean and fresh. Two colors caught my attention and stirred up some funny thoughts. One is black that gives a feeling of seriousness, mystery, and death... mmm, sounds like a great gift to a boss who won't give you a raise. hahaha Yellow i...
